This week I have been focusing on what other artist i could use to encorporate into my own work, creating more ideas. I recently looked at Van Gogh, most of all his flower and tree paintings. I am very intregued by his Cherry blossom tree paintings so I decided to mimic his style of painting.
This piece of art work was inspired by the watery background of Monets Waterlillies, as well as some influence from Jackson Pollock too. I wanted to expand my colour pallete, so I have added yellow, red and orange to the background, just as an experiment, to see what it would look like. I am pleased with the outcome, but I do think that the added colours take the idea of the waterlillies away from the painting as a whole, just leaving a rainbow sort of pattern. I dotn mind it too much though.
I decided to add my own attempt of the cherry blossom tree to the painting. I tried to follow Van Gogh's style of painting to the best of my ability, recreating the texture and the pattern of the tree branches and the blossoms and I am pleased with the outcome. I think the bold dark colours ot the tree contrast the brightly coloured rainbow background very well and I am excited to do more work relating to Van Gogh in the future.
