Once I realised copying other artists' work wasn't such a bad idea, I came across a couple of artist known as Sturtevant and Susie Ray, who both recreate almost identical copies of famous art works. Sturtevent wrote "To be a great artist is the least interesting thing I can think of", which is interesting, as all of her work is exact replicas of many famous artists' work, yet we are always told to be original and come up with our own ideas to impress the world. Where as these two artists are happy making a successfull living out of, what some would say, forging famous art works. Susie Ray does not believe she is a forger though, as she signs her name on the back of every painting she creates. But I read an article on copying art works of others and found the quote "This was how I'd learned to draw in the first place", which stood out to me because it is very true. If it wasnt for copying throughout growing up, I probably wouldn't be where I am today.
